Nova Scotia Firefighters Burn Treatment
Society Summer Burn Camp
The Nova Scotia Firefighters Burn Treatment Society, in
conjunction with the Nova Scotia Office of the Fire Marshall,
the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital and staff from the I.W.K.
Grace Pediatric Burn Unit recently held its second annual
summer burn camp from August 5th to 8th, 1999.
This years camp was held at Camp Kidston in Middle
Musquoboboit, a beautiful setting encompassing 300 acres of
pristine forest surrounding a crystal clear lake.
Twenty five burn survivors and their guests enjoyed four days
of sunshine, swimming, canoeing, playing sports, crafts,
campfires and good food. Everyone from the children to the
adults had a wonderful time and made some lasting
friendships.
A few of the high lites of the camp were: a guest appearance
by childrens author Sheree Fitch, who delighted both the
children and adults with her storytelling; Alexander McLennan,
a Doctor of Holistic Medicine, who presented a session on
natural healing and stress relief; meetings for the adults of
the Nova Scotia Burn Survivors Support Group; and a barbecue
that was attended by the families of the burn survivors.
A special thanks goes out to all the staff at Camp Kidston who
went out of their way to ensure everyone had a great time.
Plans are already being made for next years camp. If you know
of any burn survivors, regardless of age, who would like to
attend camp. Please contact the Nova Scotia Firefighters Burn
Treatment Society at (902) 835-0166. This camp is free of
charge to any burn survivor and a guest in the Maritime
Provinces
